Downton Time!

Sunday, 9pm in the Albany-Ward household means Downton Abbey! So here's a bit of what it looks like...

As soon as one of the slightly odd amazon  adverts comes on, the parents and me are sat ready for Downton. The programme starts and I begin singing along (quite badly) to the theme tune and then we are captivated in the drama.

Now I expressed a little bit of why I love the programme in my last blog, the history side of it is one of the reasons why I wanted to watch it in the first place. There are some inaccuracies of course, I mean I don't think Anna and Mary would really be that close in an actual stately home. But that's not the point! The relationships between characters and how they are portrayed are what make the programme so enjoyable.

On to a more technical side, the lighting and camera angles are so clever. It's very easy to forget that quite simply light bulbs were different back in the early 1900's and so to create that lighting and make it look so natural and effortless is something very skilful. I will never forget in the first series when the Dowager used a parasol to shield her eyes from the new electric lights, she does make me giggle. As for camera angles, I really want to know how they film the shots of reflections in car windows.

When we started watching the programme we watched it on a box set, so no adverts. But now that there are adverts every 15 minutes the parents have a little moan about how the 'interruptions prevent you from being completely absorbed emotionally'.  Nevertheless, I think it is still just as good, and Julian Fellowes' script never fails.

So there we have it, just a few reasons why I love the programme so much. I'm so upset that this is the last series, I'm far too attached to fictional characters. There will be a lot of tears in the last episode I can assure you. Just 6 more days till the next episode sighs...

AHHH HOW DOES ONE WRITE A BLOG

Hello! Welcome to my blog! (too generic? oh well)

I won't lie I thought making this blog would be a bit like making a video. It's not. For a start I normally plan for videos (I have not planned this, that may have been a mistake). At least with a blog though I can edit what I'm writing.

So, what will I do blog posts on? Hopefully on TV programmes I enjoy, films, perhaps even the radio. Maybe things that have nothing to do with that, like make up. Who knows right now?

So a couple of examples of TV shows I have been hooked on this year: My Mad Fat Diary and Downton Abbey. They're very much opposites, but they both had me binge watching them. History (Yes the 90's is history) is something I am very interested in, so of course I would love programmes that show how people have lived differently.

Now some films: I love Disney I do, and although it is highly overrated, Frozen is one of my favourites. Maybe it's just because I fell in love with Kristoff, who knows? On the other end of the spectrum, Whiplashed was amazing, horrifyingly brilliant, artistic, there isn't enough adjectives. Unlike Frozen I won't watch it again in a while, but it was so well made.

Finally, yes I am 17 but I love listening to the breakfast show on Radio 1 every morning whilst I get ready for school. I just think Nick Grimshaw is hilarious.

So there it is; a little insight to what I'll write about here. Let's hope I keep it up.
